Trigon Launches Apprenticeship Program with Local Hires

An important new group of employees is starting at Trigon. After careful and extensive work to identify needed skills and ensure alignment with the ILWU collective agreement, Trigon is establishing two electrical, two millwright and one heavy-duty mechanic apprenticeships. Three of the initial group of apprentices have been recruited internally, and two more will be hired externally. The apprentices will be registered with the provincial Industry Training Authority, will complete their practical training on-the-job at Trigon, and will also be fully supported by the company during their terms at post secondary institutions. “Offering apprenticeships is good for everyone,” says HR and Industrial Relations Advisor Hannah Davis. “It’s an important part of our long-term planning to meet future skills needs, particularly with a lot of retirements on the horizon with our existing workforce. And it’s one more example of how Trigon is investing in the people within our community. We’re really pleased to welcome this talented group to their new roles.”
Brittany Russell – seen here with Mechanical Maintenance Manager Ken Lake, Senior Electrical Superintendent Carlos Lomba and Hannah Davis – is the first to begin an apprenticeship at Trigon, where she will pursue her Red Seal Industrial Electrician designation. The other two internally hired apprentices are Johnathon Lundman (electrical) and Jacob Biggs (heavy duty mechanic).
