Trigon Today and the Vision for Tomorrow

Trigon today is the largest terminal by volume in the Port of Prince Rupert and plays a vital role in connecting Canadian natural resource producers with their customers and markets around the world. We proudly serve Canadian coal producers, and we believe that steelmaking or metallurgical coal – an essential ingredient in manufacturing steel – will remain in demand for many years to come.

While thermal coal remains an important part of the global energy mix today, exports from Canada are due to be phased out by 2030. That means big change within a short time for our terminal, and we are addressing this in two ways: 

• By building infrastructure to enable our terminal to handle new products that will be crucial to creating a clean energy future for our world.
• And by finding new ways to leverage the land and infrastructure we already have, to handle a wider range of commodities where long-term market demand is strong.

We are transforming our terminal to support these efforts, and to safeguard the skilled union jobs and other economic and social benefits we generate within our community and region, and for those who rely on our terminal.
