Trigon Pacific LPG
Doing More with Current Infrastructure
“Our aim with this project is to transition Trigon’s operations to lower carbon products, while providing the best opportunity for Canadian producers to reach market.” – Rob Booker, Trigon CEO
The LPG Opportunity
Liquid Petroleum Gas or LPG is a commodity we know well at Trigon. It is already handled in large volumes by a separately owned operation located on sub-leased land within our terminal, where Trigon provides essential railcar unloading and shiploading services.
Demand for LPG in the Asia-Pacific region is rising, driven in part by its relatively low carbon content, which means that both Canadian producers and global customers are seeking additional export capacity for Canadian LPG. That is the driver behind the proposed Trigon Pacific LPG Project announced in November 2023.
A Growth Strategy or a 'No' Strategy?
The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) has closed its doors to Canadian commodity exporters, except for those with secret insider deals.
It’s time for the port authority to bring fairness to Canada’s third largest port and support everyone instead of playing favourites.
Contact the PRPA Board of Directors today and let them know you are standing up for fairness.
The Trigon Advantage
What sets our project apart is the fact that we can re-purpose existing infrastructure, meaning the project will have the smallest environmental footprint of any potential new LPG export facility in Canada. We will use storage space currently dedicated to coal, as well as the existing berth one and shiploading arms.
LPG producers in Canada and customers in the Asia-Pacific have taken a strong interest in the Trigon Pacific LPG Project, and we are continuing to advance through project engineering and regulatory review. Next will be community engagement and Indigenous consultations, with the aim to be in operation by late 2027 or early 2028.
LPG: Versatile and Clean
Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), refers to propane or butane, which are byproducts of natural gas production and oil refining. LPG is a remarkably versatile form of energy with hundreds of uses including in transportation, home heating and cooking, and power generation.
It is also a lower-carbon and cleaner-burning fuel than alternatives such as gasoline and diesel. Like natural gas, it can play an important role as a transition fuel, helping smooth the pathway towards wider use of zero-carbon energy sources.
