While the justice system focuses on accused and convicted criminals, victims of crime are often left with what can be severe trauma to recover from. Here in Prince Rupert, the RCMP Victim Services Unit (VSU) is there to help – supporting victims, witnesses and their families through the course of their involvement in the court process.
With help from Trigon and others, the VSU recently acquired a new vehicle to help ensure VSU staff can respond to the hundreds of calls it gets each year from the RCMP and the City’s Emergency Support Services, and that they can get to crime scenes and provide transportation and other support for victims. The vehicle will also support ongoing outreach to those who are homeless.
Trigon is among several local organizations that helped make the vehicle purchase possible, with the Prince Rupert Aboriginal Community Services Society being the main funder. The contribution from Trigon’s Community Investment Fund will help cover vehicle insurance costs.
